Symptom: Philips Digital Pocket Memo (DPM) is not recognized by PC or DPM Download program when unit connects with PC
DPM Troubleshooting
Option 1: Plug the DPM docking station (or USB cable) into a different USB port than the one you generally use.
Option 2:
- Disable Windows AutoPlay feature for your Removable Storage Drives. (Windows XP) **
You may disable Autoplay for the device by right-clicking on My Computer, then select Manage. Select Disk Management, then right-click on the disk drive assigned by Windows for the DPM, and select Properties. Select Autoplay, then disable autoplay by selecting the option to ‘take no action’. Then restart the PC and test the DPM connection.
If autoplay continues for the DPM when connecting, you may try to modify the Windows Registry setting as follows:
** Warning: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Use Registry Editor (“regedit”) at your own risk.
· Click Start, and then click Run.
· Type regedit, and then click OK.
· Locate and then click the following registry subkey: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer
· If the key NoDriveTypeAutoRun exists, right-click NoDriveTypeAutoRun, click Modify, type “4” in Value data box, select Hexadecimal, and then click OK. (Note the number in the Value Data box in case you need to reenter that number.)
· Select Exit to close Registry Editor.
· Restart PC.
· Try downloading from DPM.
Option 3: Set the start location for QSDPM in Startup.
· Click Start>All Programs>Startup
· Right click QSDPM.
· Select Properties>Shortcut.
· Set “Start In” to “C:\Program Files\Quikscribe\Quikscribe Recorder 6\”
Option 4: Turn off the power management on the USB ports.
· Click Start>Control Panel>System Hardware >Device Manager.
· Double click Universal Serial Bus controllers, right click USB Root Hub, click Properties, click Power Management, and uncheck “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power”. Make this change for each USB Root Hub.
OPTION 5: Use ‘Disk Integration’ feature on QS DPM Download program.
If Windows recognizes the DPM as a removable storage device (such as drive E:), but the QS DPM Download program cannot recognize the device, there may be a compatibility issue with another USB device or software application.
For this situation, open the QS DPM Download program and select ‘Settings’, then click to select ‘Use Disk Integration’. Then select ‘Device Settings’, and select ‘Scan Particular Drive’ and select the appropriate drive letter from the list. Save the settings, then reconnect the DPM to list the files on the unit and to download.
